You are invited to a meeting of MOCHA (Mothers of Children with Autism).

MOCHA-Seattle. We meet in various locations around Greater Seattle andEastside (depending on the month) on the fourth Saturday of each month,usually from 10:00am to Noon (or so). All parents (and family members)of children on the spectrum or with related developmental issues arewelcome. Childcare is not available.

MOCHA is a great group, oriented toward upbeat talk about our lives, ourkids, and how to help our children develop and heal. We provide supportand exchange information. Membership is free, just come! We discusswhatever the members are interested in discussing at any given meeting.Many in the group do successful biomedical interventions toadvance/recover their children. Biomedical intervention is not arequirement, but open discussions and sharing of resources for those whowould like to learn more, occurs regularly.

Dr. James Webb, recognized as one of the 25 most influential psychologists in gifted education and creator of Supporting Emotional Needs of Gifted (SENG), will give a free presentation on Tuesday, July 27 on the 11 issues that are common concerns for parents of gifted children from tots to teens:

2. Motivation and underachievement
3. Discipline, power struggles, self-management
4. Intensity, stress and perfectionism
5. Acquaintances, friends and peers
6. Siblings and only children
7. Values, traditions and uniqueness
8. Idealism, unhappiness, and depression

10. Misdiagnosis
11. Finding a good educational fit

Information will be given about each, along with how four major factors range of ability, asynchronous development, over excitabilities, and thinking styles influence these issues.

About the Summer Intervention Program
Started in 2002 , FEAT's Summer Intervention Program (SIP) provides students with an autism spectrum disorder and their typically developing peers with an exceptional summer educational experience based on ABA. Serving over 60 students between the ages of 4 and 12 years old each summer at two different sites, the SIP offers enrolled students the opportunity to receive highly skilled instruction in social skills, language skills, reading skills, mathematics skills, and writing skills.

July 7-10 in Dallas

Plan to join us for the 41st Autism Society National Conference and Exposition at the Hyatt Regency in Dallas July 7-10. Bringing together the expertise and experiences of family members, professionals and individuals on the spectrum, attendees are able to learn how to more effectively advocate and obtain supports for an individual with ASD. The ultimate goal is to empower family members, individuals on the spectrum and professionals to make informed decisions.

Registration will open on February 15. This year all registrations will include full access to the recordings of all conference sessions as part of the registration fee.

We expect close to 2,000 attendees at this conference, representing service providers, professionals, parents, individuals on the spectrum, state and federal government representatives, nonprofits supporting autism and others. The exhibit hall has over 140 booths representing the products, services and organizations of the autism community. At Camp Sealth we will attend camp with the American Diabetes Association, and can easily accommodate children with both gluten intolerances and diabetes.


Camper spots fill quickly, especially at Camp Kanata (often by Feb). Reserve your camper’s spot early.
